Ed Stern, BSN RN

Hello, I'm Ed.

I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Student, a Registered Nurse, Radio Show Host, and so much more.

My experience is filled with patients who have experienced physical and emotional trauma, and staff who were seeking growth.  As I looked back on my years of experience, I realized that the one common thread was me being present for these people, helping them process, and helping them move forward.  This is why I want to be a PMHNP.

As you take a moment to learn about me, you will see how my diverse background, has alined to make me a strong candidate as a PMHNP Student in a clinical setting.

I’m looking forward to learning from experts in the industry as I integrate my past experience into my future career.

Thanks for taking the time,

Ed Stern BSN RN

Goals After Graduation

I'm very open to options.  I undestand that the best thing I can do right now is learn during my clinical rotations.  As I experience more in these settings, I will better understand my options.  Presently I would like to find a way to integrate my experience with trauma and addiction to work with uniform and healthcare personnel as well as the LGBTQ+ community.

Ed's Background in a Nutshell

Clinical Care

PMHNP Student

Actively pursuing my MSN as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from Walden University. One of the key reasons I chose Walden because of their focus on therapeutic care along with medication management.

After years as a Paramedic, an educator and then a technology marketing executive I returned to healthcare in 2001 to become an RN. As a nurse, I have worked in a variety of clinical settings including; emergency medicine, ambulatory care, leadership and of course behavioral health.

EMT/Paramedic

Even before I was out of high school I started my medical profession. I was an EMT in high school, and my first degree is as a Paramedic, I worked in EMS for 12 years.

Educator

Radio Show Co-Host

Most nurses don't spend a lot of time hosting a radio show, but I was given an opportunity to be a volunteer co-host on a public radio program. I now co-host a show on LGBTQ+ health and wellness topics and air live about once a month for a full hour. I bring guest experts in and we talk about a variety of mental and physical health topics relevant to the LGBTQ+ community

Nursing Adjunct

After more than 12 years teaching Paramedics and LPNs, I am now teaching future RNs their nursing skills.

CEU Podcaster

Previously I developed and hosted a CEU Podcast for EMS professionals. We developed a large listening audience in 18 countries.

Additional Background

Foster Parent

For six years I fostered a number of teenagers through Fairfax County. I was able to meet their personal needs and assist them with various behavioral problems common in youth today.

Innovator

I had the pleasure of being at the forefront of the "dot com" boom in the '90s. I helped companies profit through the use of technology, as well as building the internet strategy for one of the largest nonprofit organizations.

Photographer

I started taking pictures when I was 2 and I'm still at it. I have been a newspaper stringer, a fire scene photographer and a landscape and flower photographer.
